Supporting Diversity – Con or Bust

Loncon 3 is being held in Newham, one of the most diverse boroughs in London, which is itself one of the world’s most diverse cities.

As a Worldcon, which aims to bring together attendees from a wide range of countries and backgrounds to celebrate science fiction, we also want to do our best to represent the diversity of both the borough and city which are our hosts.

As part of this, Loncon 3 has joined up with the US-based non-profit organisation Con or Bust. Their website details their origins and purpose, and explains how fans can individually support their endeavours and apply for assistance.

Initially Loncon 3 has donated five new attending memberships to Con or Bust, and has agreed to donate up to another 20 to match donations from our members. In addition, to enable current members who can’t now attend to both support this initiative and continue being a part of Loncon 3, we will swap a supporting membership for each attending membership donated to Con or Bust. This means donors will continue to have full voting rights in the Hugo and Retrospective Hugo awards and site selection regardless of when they donate their membership.

So if you find that you’re unable to attend Loncon 3, please consider donating your attending membership to Con or Bust and receive a supporting membership in its place.

To donate your membership, simply email memberships@loncon3.org, stating your name, address, email address and membership number and asking us to transfer your attending membership to ‘Con or Bust’.
