Dances at Loncon 3

We already have a number of events for your dance card over the weekend and hope to add one or two more…

Thursday 14 August
1:30PM - 4:30PM: Learn How to Swing Dance

Our first dance of the weekend will immediately follow the Retro Hugo Award Ceremony on Thursday evening. Want to learn some dances from the 1930s? We have you covered! Join the swing dance class! Antonia Pugliese and Raven Stern from the Commonwealth Vintage Dancers will teach three one-hour classes to get you started. Take one, or take them all! The first hour will focus on 6-count swing, from the basic step pattern to some fun variations. The second hour will cover 8-count swing, equally easy but rhythmically different. Either class can stand alone, but taking both lets you mix-and-match steps. In the last hour we will cover Charleston, including lots of solo steps in case partner-dancing isn't your thing. East coast swing and Charleston can be pretty energetic, but these classes will be geared towards beginners so no dance experience is necessary. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes (flats are great!), and don't worry about bringing a partner. Just come give it a try!

10PM – 1AM: Swing Dance

The Brideshead Ballroom Stompers provide a show specialising in the Jazz Age music of the 1920s and the Swing Music of the 1930s. The band takes all the elegance and humour of the era, making your experience as authentic as possible. Consisting of the UK’s finest musicians in this style, and with fantastic music and costumes to match, the band will give you the real feel of an authentic 1930s evening – ideal to sit-back and enjoy, and even better to get up and dance to!

Friday 15 August
1:30PM - 4:30PM: Regency Dance

Join us for an afternoon of elegance from days gone past. Again, your tutors will be Antonia Pugliese and Raven Stern from Vintage Dancers.

The Liam Robinson Band

10:30PM – 1AM: Ceilidh - The Liam Robinson Band, sponsored by Dublin 2019 and Shamrokon.

Join us for traditional dance music of the highest quality with The Liam Robinson Band, three highly skilled musicians who understand what it takes to play traditional music for dancing. The calling is superb – and dancers of all skill levels will feel welcomed. Sponsored by the Dublin in 2019 Worldcon Bid and Shamrokon, the 2014 Eurocon.

Saturday 16 August
10:30PM – 1AM: 80s Night dance

Come dance with music from a time when everyone knew how to do Thriller, The Wall was more than just a Pink Floyd reference and everyone danced like there could be no tomorrow!

Sunday 17 August
10:30PM – 1AM: British Rock Disco

Dance the night away in our classic British rock disco!
