Enjoy Our Hospitality

The Hospitality Hall - our Fan Village - will be the centre of our social activities, both throughout the day and in the evenings. This will be the place to relax, eat, drink, talk, make friends - and in the evenings, party.

Food and Drink

Our space will feature a lounge, and also a lawn!

You will be able to get food and drink here, and there’ll be a lot of café/bar type space to sit down and enjoy it, but we’re not thinking of a food court so much as a common room. And a garden outside (although in this case, outside is still in fact inside. After all, this is Britain, so the only thing we expect from the weather is the unexpected…).

In British convention terms, of course, this is the bar. By which we don’t just mean that there’ll be a bar (although of course there will – and this is a British convention so you can rest assured that we’re thinking about good local beer. And cider. And wine and spirits and soft drinks too). But this is the heart and soul of the convention – where you find your friends, chill, chat about the brilliant programme item you’ve just seen, and plan the rest of your day.

Fan tables

The Fan Village will also host a number of fan tables. They'll give you an opportunity to find out about various clubs and societies as well as other upcoming conventions and bids from around the world, including the 2014 Eurocon in Dublin just one week after Loncon 3 and the 2015 Worldcon in Spokane.

Parties

The good news is that the fan space will still be there at night. The even better news is that you won’t have to choose between the quintessential British convention experience of hanging out in the bar and the quintessential Worldcon experience of touring the parties. Because the parties will be here too.

We will have a number of areas in the hall in which people can run parties (more information here). This will make it easier not only to move around the parties themselves but also to move between the parties, the bar, and everything else we’ve got going on in the hall that night.

And There's More!

The bar and the parties are only one facet of the social space we’re looking to create in the Hospitality Hall. We'll also be hosting some of the programme activities that need more space and time – and which we thought should be open to spectators. For instance, we’re planning to host a lot of the gaming, some of WOOFA’s more lively events, some ad hoc entertainment, and a variety of fun and games which don’t need to be scheduled but can just happen when the time seems right.
