Photography Competition Rules and Guidelines

Our photography competition is now closed.

  1. The competition is open to all amateur and professional photographers.
  2. You can enter more than one photograph per category as long as you submit an entry fee for each photograph.
  3. You do not need to be a member of the convention to enter the competition.
  4. No member of the convention’s staff serving at Area Head level or above may enter.
  5. “Alien Earth” and “Future Cities Today” are open to anyone else who is 16 years old or older on the competition closing date; the entry fee is £10 per photograph entered in each category.
  6. The Junior category is open to anyone who is under 16 on the competition closing date; the entry fee is £2 per photograph.
  7. An entry fee must be paid for each photograph entered in the competition.
  8. Entries will be accepted by email, and entered into the competition on payment of the relevant entry fee. If you are unable to do this, please contact the competition administrator via or the convention address to enquire about alternative arrangements.
  9. All images must be submitted as JPEGs, saved at a high quality level, and must be less than 5MB in total. Please do not include borders, watermarks or signatures on the image. The minimum size is 1600 pixels wide (for a horizontal image) or 1600 pixels tall (for a vertical image).
  10. The closing date for all entries to be received is 30 April 2014.
  11. Any photograph that has won a prize in another photographic competition may not be submitted and will not be eligible for the competition.
  12. All photographs entered must be submitted under an individual’s name.
  13. Each entry must be the original work of the entrant.
  14. The administrator may ask for confirmation that entries meet these conditions of entry, including for proof of age from entrants in the Junior category.
  15. Photographs from any world (or other world) location may be submitted.
  16. It is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure that all necessary permissions are obtained from any person featured in a photograph.
  17. Copyright will remain with the photographer.
  18. Due to the science fictional theme of the competition, digital editing which does not infringe on copyright is permitted; however, it is not a requirement.
  19. The judges’ decision is final.
  20. The winners will be announced on 1 July 2014, and will also be notified directly.
